The institution promotes initiatives that integrate international academic experiences, technological innovation, and community engagement to shape changemakers capable of generating positive transformations in their environment. Santo Domingo, June 9, 2026. – With the goal of shaping students capable of making a positive impact both in their communities and on global stages, New Horizons School (NHS) continues to promote educational opportunities that integrate innovation, leadership, and social commitment as fundamental pillars of its academic model. Recently, students from the school took part in various initiatives that strengthened both their academic skills and their civic awareness, both within and outside the country. Through programs focused on science, technology, and innovation, as well as community service projects developed in collaboration with TECHO, the students had the opportunity to apply their knowledge in real-world contexts, develop leadership skills, and make a meaningful impact in their communities. "Seeing our students perform on international stages is a deeply rewarding experience. Every trip, project, or exchange gives them the chance to grow, learn, and discover that their talents can open doors anywhere in the world," said Elisami Cedeño Florentino, Coordinator of International Learning Opportunities and Computer Science. Innovation and learning on international stages As part of an international academic experience, NHS students took part in cultural exchange programs and activities in London, where they developed a project focused on climate change research using programming, data analysis, and algorithmic thinking. Their performance was recognized at the international Europe STEAM League by Coded competition, where they took first place in the Best Algorithm – Climate Research category. In addition, one of the team members received the Coded Spirit award for his leadership and exemplary attitude during the program. Social commitment and community transformation Separately, 24 students took part in a home-building day alongside TECHO, benefiting a family in the Mata Gorda Centro community in Santo Domingo Norte. The initiative was carried out through the ILOS Changemakers Social Impact program of the International Schools Partnership (ISP), an international network of more than 100 private schools worldwide, whose goal together with the institution is to shape changemakers through experiences that combine learning, innovation, leadership, and sustainability to drive positive transformations in local communities. Beyond a community service activity, this experience allowed participants to see firsthand the impact that can be achieved when young people come together with purpose and solidarity. During the day, they took part in construction work, organizing materials, logistical support, and accompanying the beneficiary family, showing a strong sense of commitment, empathy, and dedication to service. In addition to directly contributing to building the home, the initiative was supported by fundraising efforts that made the project possible and reinforced the value of social responsibility as a tool for transformation. Through these initiatives, New Horizons School reaffirms its commitment to a well-rounded education that prepares its students to lead with purpose, innovate with impact, and actively contribute to the development of a more sustainable, supportive, and inclusive society.
