The event was held at the Santo Domingo and Santiago campuses of New Horizons School Students from 17 educational centers in Santo Domingo and Santiago gathered for the 2024 edition of the American Math Competition, the most recognized international math competition, for which New Horizons Bilingual School serves as the regional host site. The event, held simultaneously in both locations, brought together more than 225 students at the AMC 8 level (for students in 6th to 8th grade), who took standardized tests applied worldwide to assess their academic and mathematical level. Miriam Medina, college counselor at New Horizons and coordinator of the competition, explained that in higher education, depending on a student's performance in math, universities can predict whether a student will succeed or not; "that's why it's so important to offer this type of training and competitions to improve academic performance." Medina noted that this year they doubled the number of participants, "because this type of event allows students interested in this subject to see that there are other students interested in math, motivating them to study and practice it." Students interested in participating in this international competition register once the call for entries opens and have access to preparation materials posted on the AMC website. Once the tests are completed, they are evaluated and graded in the United States and sent to New Horizons, which is responsible for delivering them to each participating center.
